The Challenge

SWATCOM Active8 waterproof headsets are used by the military, the police and by professional shooters. They offer 360 degree stereo sound reproduction to enhance situational awareness and audio clarity whilst giving optimum personnel hearing protection. The team needed packaging that offered a practical and premium solution for transit and on-shelf applications.

Sarina Packaging designed a packaging solution using a mixture of corrugated board and folding box board. The primary pack was made of 180CC/E/150W board, a clay coated white board, to provide an optimum printing surface. This was flexo printed two colours to the exterior and one colour to the interior.

This E fluted board has a thickness of between 1.5mm and 2mm and offers excellent crush resistance due to the high number of flutes per square meter. It has a high resistance to moisture and tearing.

A standalone, self-locking, corrugated insert was designed to house the headset within the box thus protecting it in transit and ensuring the best unboxing experience. This insert also accommodated a carry bag, accessories and the user manual.

To finish the packaging off, and to provide the best user experience, a carton board sleeve was designed to slide over the carton. Side seam glued and made from 500mu GC2 folding box board the sleeve was litho printed four colour process and featured the addition of a spot UV varnish to enhance the print images.
